  • What is a 3D pen?
    A 3D pen is a handheld 3D printer that allows you to draw three-dimensional objects. It works by extruding heated plastic filament through a heated nozzle, which then cools and hardens as it is deposited onto a surface, allowing you to create sculptures, models, or other objects layer by layer. Think of it as a 3D printer you can hold in your hand!
  • How does a 3D pen work?
    A 3D pen works by heating plastic filament and extruding it through a nozzle to form shapes. The filament, which is typically in the form of a small spool of plastic, is fed into the pen. Once heated, the plastic melts, and as the user draws with the pen, the plastic solidifies almost instantly, allowing you to build up 3D objects layer by layer. You can move the pen in any direction to form various shapes and designs.
  • What is filament, and what is it made of?
    Filament is the material used in a 3D pen, and it comes in spools, similar to a spool of thread. The filament we use is made of plastic, with the most common materials being PLA (Polylactic Acid). PLA is biodegradable and made from renewable resources like cornstarch and comes in a variety of colors.
  • How hot does the 3D pen get? Is it safe to use?
    3DPenParty pens heat up to temperatures of approximately 190°C. While the pen’s nozzle and heating element can get quite hot, our Tech Coaches and safety procedures are there to ensure safe use of the pen by children and adults when using a 3D pen.
  • Can I use any kind of plastic filament in the 3D pens at the SPACE?
    No, you can only use the filament provided in our sessions.
  • What are some uses for a 3D pen?
    3D pens can be used for a wide variety of creative, educational, and functional purposes, such as: ● Creating sculptures and models ● Making home décor items (e.g., lampshades, picture frames, and wall art) ● Designing prototypes for product development ● Engaging children in educational STEM projects ● Adding intricate details to art projects ● Repairing small items or creating custom parts

    Yes! Once you have mastered the basics, 3D pens can be used to create detailed and intricate designs. With practice, you can create complex and multi-layered projects, from delicate flower petals to customized home décor items. The key is to start with simple projects and gradually work your way up to more detailed creations.
  • Are 3D pens good for kids?
    Yes, 3D pens are fantastic for kids, especially those who are interested in art, design, and technology. 3D pens help children develop fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and creativity. They are also a great way to engage kids in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities by combining art and technology. However, due to the heated tip, children should always be supervised when using a 3D pen.
  • Is it easy to clean a 3D pen?
    Yes, cleaning a 3D pen is relatively simple. However you will never have to clean our pens. If for any reason a 3D pen becomes inoperable, we will replace it immediately.
